Levellers Day 2006

This year's speakers were
 
Tony Benn
Elder Statesman
 
81 this April, the elder statesman of the left who quit the House of Commons
in 2001 "to spend more time on politics" and remains one of the most
independent and entertaining of speakers.
 
 

 
Karen Chouhan
Executive member: National Assembly Against Racism
 
“Hoodies, Hijabs and Anoraks” was the title of Karen’s contribution to a
recent adult learning conference. She’s one of seven visionaries who have
been selected by the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust to take part in a
five-year "mission to change the world".
 
 
 

 
Salma Yaqoob
Chair: Birmingham Stop the War Coalition; vice-chair: Respect
 
Salma is a Bradford-born psychotherapist who became active in the anti-war
movement after an incident in Birmingham city centre after 9/11, when she
was spat at in the street. She’s chair of Birmingham Stop-the-War Coalition
and vice-chair of Respect.

a welcome return to a singer/songwriter who’s long been pleasing us all with
his moving, funny, angry and inspirational songs.
